Facebook’s News Feed Will Now Prioritize Local News

At the start of 2018, we have seen Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg took up a resolution to Fix its social networking platform. Previously, Facebook told us that there would be less news content on Facebook. Then it told us that it will prioritize trustworthy news sources.

Now it looks like, Facebook is going to prioritize news from local outlets. Mark Zuckerberg said on Monday that the social media platform would now focus on promoting local news in its latest update.

Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post “Starting today, we’re going to show more stories from news sources in your local town or city. If you follow a local publisher or if someone shares a local story, it may show up higher in News Feed.”

According to Mark Zuckerberg, the latest update will only be rolled out in the United States and expanded to more countries later this year. Well, the latest update from Facebook could help regional publisher, who have struggled to reach the right audiences in the News Feed.

Now you all might be querying how Facebook will define local publishers? Well, Facebook defines publishers based on how often the links are clicked in a geographic area.

Well, Facebook had recently adjusted its centerpiece News Feed to prioritize what friends and family share by reducing the amount of content from publishers and brands.
