ozilla Firefox is one of the best browsers of the current time. The recently released Firefox Quantum has reinforced it as one of the best deals and promises to fight the leadership of Chrome.

Over the past few months, Mozilla has been working on optimizing and improving its browser. The competition is fierce and has been able to keep ahead. Hence, now with the arrival of version 57, everything has changed. The Firefox Quantum, as it is known, promises to surpass the competition and make forget all the browsers that we find in the market.

We all know very well that Firefox Quantum has been officially unveiled recently and it is now also available for download on Mozilla’s servers. This new version promises improvements at all levels, but especially with regard to the consumption of resources and the speed with which we can access the content we have on the Internet.

However, a recent surprise that the Firefox team included in their browser, an extension referring to the famous Mr. Robot series, had a bittersweet effect because it triggered negative reactions from users.

In recent days, Firefox users have realized that they have installed an extension in their browser called “Looking Glass”. When activated, the extension showed, in certain sites, clues and references to the world-known series Mr. Robot. However, what most disturbed the users was the description of the extension, which contained the following message: “MY REALITY IS JUST DIFFERENT THAN YOURS”.

Obviously, this message left several users suspicious and disturbed as to the implications that that extension might be having on their machine. That said, there were several complaints and complaints in the Firefox forum, focusing especially on the strange and suspicious message inserted in the extension, but also on the fact that it was installed without the users’ authorization.

Given the negative reactions and the proportion of the retaliation to the act they did, the Firefox team has already made it public to clarify and justify the situation, claiming that this was a collaboration with the series team and intended to promote the same, because it shares some of the values with Mozilla itself, including online privacy and security.

In addition, the team also stressed that installing the extension was a surprise to fans and users and that it was not active by default, as it requires the user intervention to activate it. They also added that this episode does not compromise their premise of respecting and fighting for the privacy of users, ensuring that user data was not saved or shared.

This episode shows once again that the theme of online privacy is very sensitive and users are increasingly aware of this, obviously giving more importance to this factor when choosing a browser, operating system or online service.

Companies have to take special care not to interfere with this right of users, thus running the risk of happening to them similar to this with Mozilla.
